Chris Barrett
In Her Own Words...
Originally a Geography/Geology schoolteacher, I went to work in the outdoors in 1984 taking a fulltime Outdoor Education course for a year in Edinburgh. It was this year in Edinburgh which gave me my love of Scotland but it was another nine years before I was to move there permanently from my home in the south of England. I worked for Outward Bound in Wales for four years after qualifying and it was here I met Fran who was the House Manager for the Wales centres. We became firm friends and with other members of Outward Bound Staff went on several sailing, walking and cycling holidays before deciding in 1989 to take the plunge and start our own business. We both loved Scotland and intended to look at property in Argyll in the south but were persuaded to look at the Lighthouse much further north. The rest is history and has been told elsewhere. I am a member of the local mountain rescue team, have a mountain leader award and have 20 years experience as a walking guide, ten of which are in this area of Wester Ross in the Scottish highlands.

Chris conducts the Wilderness Walking around The Rua Reidh Lighthouse experience.
