Eleanor Bergeron
Eleanor finds herself in Morocco because her husband, Ernest, has been involved in the development of water wells in the Western Sahara since 1978 and has had an intimate relationship with the area and its peoples. Eleanor took a sabatical leave from household duties in the Canary Islands, joined her husband in Laayoune and became interested in the preservation of the Oasis which had been abandonded for decades. With the idea in mind of creating a natural reserve, the Bergeron family began to restore the 2 hectare palm grove and to offer restaurant and sleeping quarters to those looking for an opportunity to taste an authentic experience in the desert.

The Bergerons are from the U.S., California and Louisiana, but have traveled extensively and have lived for the past forty years in Las Palmas, Canary Islands, the family homestead. Two of the four Bergeron children still live in the Islands and are available, upon request, to guide special tours around the Laayoune region.

Eleanor conducts EarthFoot's Week in the Desert experience.
