After qualifying with an MA in Geography back in 1981, Graeme chose to go into food retail management! After a number of enjoyable years learning the business and working in central Scotland, in 1994 he went back to university to complete a master's degree. However, by this time he was already 'getting itchy feet' and wanted more than anything to be in an area where he could combine work with his interests in walking and climbing as well as Scottish social and economic history.
Fortunately Fiona, also a geography graduate, was feeling the same! An excellent cook and keen amateur photographer and with strong 'green principals', she too wanted to change, move on and do something new. In 2000 a decision was made, Graeme gave up his job first but soon to be followed by Fiona and we moved north to Loch Ness where in 2002 we established Evergreen as our business Over the past three years we have developed the business and what we are able to offer our guests. We have not however, strayed from the basic idea behind the venture which has always been to provide a small number of visitors with a unique holiday experience combining high quality accommodation with the opportunity to experience the area through personalised guided walks and car tours. In addition to being a partner in the business Graeme is heavily involved in the local tourist industry as a whole and also teaches part-time in Inverness. Despite all this he still managed time last year to run the Loch Ness marathon - surely one of the most scenic (if somewhat challenging!) marathon's in the world. Fiona meanwhile is responsible more for the day to day running of the business and with her excellent cooking skills and attention to detail has ensured that the quality and ambience of Evergreen is of the highest standard. Fiona too is involved in local tourism and is presently secretary of our local group, a group committed to the principals of 'green tourism'. She very much enjoys walking which also allows her to indulge in her passion for photography. Photos presented are her original work (excluding Earthfoot's compression of her pictures' resolution to accomodate for speedy download via modem) Graeme and Fiona Ambrose present EarthFoot's Evergreen Loch Ness "Bed and Breakfast in the Highlands" experience. |
