Geddes is a Wildlife
Biologist living in the Cayman Islands. He brings along his years of experience in
wildlife research and environmental education in Trinidad & Tobago, WI. As the former
Public Education Manager of the National Trust for the Cayman Islands, Geddes was also
involved in the interpretative development of the Q.E II Botanic Park and Grand
Caymans famous Mastic Trail. Main field of interest:
Nature-watching in general, ecology, ethno-botany & ethno-zoology (cultural uses of
plants & wildlife). Being an educator at heart if not by training, Geddes is willing
to share his knowledge with all levels of interest and frequently works with school groups
in researching the "outdoor laboratory".
Background:
Born in 1962, Geddes grew up on the West Indian island of Trinidad and developed an
interest in the rich variety of wildlife on his island home from an early age. In 1985
Geddes graduated with a degree in wildlife biology from the University of Guelph in
Ontario, Canada and worked for the Trinidad & Tobago government in wildlife management
and research on both islands. Geddes married his wife Janet and migrated to the Cayman
Islands where he worked in environmental education with the National Trust for the Cayman
Islands. Today he owns and operates Silver Thatch Excursions- the only authentic
(land-based) ecotourism operator on the island of Grand Cayman since 1996. This ecotourism
award-winning business grew from a passionate love of nature and the outdoors and
realisation of the need for a professional interpretative service to enrich a
visitors exposure to Caymans natural and historic heritage.
Geddes conducts EarthFoot's "Nature Walks &
Birding with A Wildlife Biologist" experience. |
