Tom Jacobson

Tom JacobsonCaptain Tom Jacobson, 51, has 25 years of safe experience as captain of commercial vessels on the waters of southeast Alaska. He has additionally spent years successfully sailing his own boat to the far corners of the Pacific, from the Coral Sea to the Bering Sea.

An active conservationist with a life-long interest in natural history, he attended University of Chicago and is currently serving an appointment by the Governor to the International Pacific Salmon Commission. He has been a rural resident of Prince of Wales Island since 1975 and knows the local backwaters as few others do. He is fully licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard and has had additional training and certification in marine safety procedures.

"I believe it important to provide an opportunity for the outside public to get to know first-hand their wild public lands and waters and to come to appreciate their value as wilderness habitat worthy of protection. To this end, we strive to provide a safe, leave-no-trace wilderness experience that is both fun and educational, through a venture wholly owned and operated by rural Alaska village residents. We subscribe to the ecotourism guidelines of the Alaska Wilderness Recreation and Tourism Association and contribute to the Southeast Alaska Conservation Council through the Dollar-a-day conservation program."
