Alejandro Larriera

Alejandro Larriera I am married, 45 years old. I'm working with the caymans of Santa Fe since 1983. As a veterinarian, I have a lot of experience with the different species of wild animals in our state, based on the fact I was in charge of the wildlife service for ten years.

I'm leading the Yacare Project team since 1990, which is aimed at the sustainable utilization of the wild wetlands in Northern Santa Fe. The project is successfully appraising the forest and marshy lands in the region, benefiting basically the local inhabitants which are usually employees of the cattle ranches ("gauchos").

I lead a team of ten people working on different aspects of the biology of the broad-snouted cayman, such as reproduction, growth, food habits in the wild, and more.

I'm also the Regional Vice Chairman of the Crocodile Specialist Group, an NGO that works within the IUCN structure for the conservation of all crocodilian species.

Finally, I conduct a Local TV Show about environmental problems and the proposed solutions.

Alejandro conducts EarthFoot's Cayman-Protection Ecotour in the Ssanta Fe Wetlands program.
