Main Field of interest: Desert Ecology, the Natural history and Cultures of Namibia, and preserving our unique and widely divergent eco-systems for future generations to experience - at least once in a lifetime! Education: Trained as a Medical Technologist, Veterinary Technician, and then as a Marketing, Sales and Customer Services Consultant. Languages: English, German & Afrikaans (Working on Italian & Spanish) Background: A born Naturalist, Leon grew up on a cattle farm at a time, and in an area, where African Wildlife was in abundance. Since a very early age, the wide outdoors of Nature was his classroom. His training in both the Medical & Veterinary fields created an even greater awareness of the relationship and interaction between Human and Animal in our plant universe, called Earth. On a sporadic basis, he was also involved in Wildlife Management on a private Nature Reserve, as well as part of a research team for Nature Conservation in Namibia. During his many and varied careers, his love of- and dedication to Nature, remained the main focal point throughout, and resulted in his active involvement in sharing this with others through the platform of Tourism. He served a term on the now defunct South West African Tourism Board (replaced by the Namibian Tourism Board). Although specialising in small groups or individuals wishing to experience private encounters with Namibian Nature, Cultures and History, he is a fully registered Safari Operator. This enables him not to deny larger groups the same experiences. For relaxation, and to further share experiences, Leon enjoys writing accounts of travels and experiences of Nature in the form of short stories. Leon conducts EarthFoot's "Ecosystems of the Namib Desert" experience. |
