Uwe Plahl

Uwe 1964: born in former communist East Germany
1970-1980: 10 years of school that I completed with excellent results
1980-1984: apprenticeship and job in a metal working company
1984-1987: study at a famous trade school that was finished successfully
1987 -1989: working as a mechanical engineer designing cranes and conveying systems; two years fight against the East German Government to get permission to migrate to West Germany; two years of being spied by the STASI - East German security ploice- that caused me and my family many problems
8 June 1989: I finally got permission to leave East Germany, yet before the wall came down, but as a final torment I had to leave it within less than 24 hours
1989 - 1995: jobbing as a mechanical engineer in 'West' Germany
1992: First holiday to Australia / New Zealand, and I immediately fell for this country
1994: Second holiday to Australia, when I decided to leave Germany for good
1994-1996: it took two years before I got my permanent residency for Australia
April 1996: move to Australia - Adelaide
April 1996 - November 1997: several attempts to get a tour guiding business up and running based in Adelaide
November 1997 - December 1998: working at Kings Canyon Resort (chef and baker); intensive studies in that National Park; becoming a hobby tour guide and hobby 'medicine man'; finally the management of the Resort gave their 'yes' to promote my proposed business as a tour operator
December 1998 - April 1999: Final preps for business (went back to Adelaide)
April 1999 - August 2000: Working as an independent tour operator - and as the only one - based at Watarrka National Park / Kings Canyon. I was accommodating the former headquarter of the Rangers who deserted it and the lease was given to the Kings Canyon Resort. My first book 'Common Plants of Watarrka National Park and their traditional uses' was sold at the Kings Canyon Resort, in both English and German.
August 2000: business move to Alice Springs
