Dr. Vladimir PozdnyakovDr Pozdnyakov is an ornithologist to the innermost of his heart. He is overwhelmed by idea to show the Northern Paradise of Birds to the rest of the world.

To the Arctic area, Dr. Pozdnyakov dedicated ten years of his life researching ecology and birds protection. That was the very thesis for his Doctor Degree. Now he is Deputy Director fo Science of International Biological Station "Lena-Nordenskiold" that is located in the delta of the Lena River. He is in charge of research work at the station.

Lena-Nordenskiold Station was set up according to the Memorandum of Mutual Undestanding between the Republic of Sakha and WWF-Sweden. The station was opened by Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philippe in July, 1995. The mission of the IBS is to conduct complex researches of arctic ecosystems in Yakutia, observe their biodiversity, conduct monitoring of the ecological situation and research sustainable use of natural resources.

The location of the station is convenient to undertake the monitoring of water, mountain and tundra ecosystems. The Lena River Delta part is a power-full acumulator of suspended substances, including the polluted substances in the runoff of the Lena. The existence of preserves and industrial (navigation; floating and storing of timber; commercial hunting and fishing) areas allows to study the mutial influence of human being and the environment and the natural biological processes.

During his work at the station, Dr. Pozdnyakov with the help of his colleagues registered 125 bird species in the delta of the Lena River. Bobrovsky Island is the area where you can see enormous gathering of birds. Read more about the tour and the Arctic birds in the secation Ornithological Tour.
