Earthfoot hosts Ted & Louraine Sabat

Ted SabatLouraine Sabat

At this time Ted is working in England, with plans to soon return to Guyana to live, so for current visitors Louraine is the main host, the one who keeps the rainforest camp going and assigns day-guides to each visitor. Below are sections of e-mails from Ted telling about himself and Louraine in his own laconic, military-man manner:

Ted Sabat, at your service.

Negro, English, London, born 07/09/44. Brought up in U.K. and Germany.

Married to Guyanese since 1966.

Many children. Trained by and served in British Army (R.E.M.E.) as Automotive engineer from 1960 -69. First taste of tropics when on active service in Borneo 1964- 65. Medal and clasp for same period. Went to Guyana in late 1971 as a four week adventure and stayed 30 years. During that time taught at the local Technical Institute, and the Bauxite Mining Technical Training College. Past member and Director of the local LIONS Club. Found present location in interior of Guyana's Rain Forest at MARSHALL FALLS in 1981. Slowly developed area in keeping with the environment and experimented with crops and natural fertilisers to establish one of the world's first SUSTAINABLE ECO-TOURISM adventure camps... putting the years of Jungle experience and military training blended with the laid-back attitude of the local English speaking good humoured Guyanese life style.

Wife Louraine, looks after the day to day staff duties, Guyanese. Trained and employed as an armed security guard, transferring money around for many years Georgetown. Lived and worked in the interior as a young person assisting her Aunt run a trading post. With this background she always has an eye on organising the staff and a very good business sense based on honesty and discipline. Thinks nothing of walking 26 miles in a day to go "shopping". Attended training course in the UK, in a five star hotel and studied the standard and methods of tourism in London.

The Sabats conduct our Safari to Marshall Falls on the Mazaruni River program.
