Dario Sandrini

"The social and
the environmental …
must now come
together, truly, they
should have never been separated"

Dario Sandrini

Dario Sandrini is the director of Kido Ecological Research Station.

Dario was born and raised in Venice, Italy. He discovered his passion for nature and music in his early years, taught by his father, a writer and naturalist.

He later became a professional musician (guitar and flute) and a dedicated environmentalist. Endeavoring to transmit to his audience passion for conservation and planetary harmony, Dario also became a speaker. For two decades he traveled by sailboat in the Western Pacific, South China Sea, Indian Ocean (which he sailed across diagonally from Asia to Africa mostly single-handed). He lived 7 months on a tiny desert atoll in the Chagos, just South of the Equator, in the middle of the Indian Ocean.

Back in Europe he formed Kido, a group of multinational artists and environmentalists, giving concerts, producing exhibitions, theatre and conferences…on the water, on board sailing catamarans.

In 1991, after sailing across the Atlantic and making landfall in Grenada, he co-founded Kido Project with Dr. Marina Fastigi (sociologist and wildlife rehabilitator), with the aim to build an ecological monitoring station in the most pristine part of the Grenadines.

Since then he has been the initiator of several environmental activities and worked in grassroots environmental education as well as at international conferences and regional meetings.

In 1995 Dario, with Dr. Fastigi, founded the not-for-profit Yachting Without Frontiers-Kido Foundation, with the aim to spread awareness and to seek commitment from the worldwide yachting community to offer help on global and local environmental and social problems.

Dario conducts our Visiting the Kido Ecological Research Station program.
