Tribal People & Settlers
around the Periyar Tiger Reserve

Around 25,000 people living around the reserve used to exert considerable pressure on the forest resources for their sustenance. They are just regular people, people with tribal origins, and settlers. The eco-lodge is a result of an eco-development project with the goal of reducing this pressure by helping the local people get involved, and receive benefit from the reserve being where it is. This ensures forest conservation which will ideally act as a social fence around the Protected Areas. This is a World Bank aided project and proceeds from this programme go to the local communities.

When you write to learn more about this project, your email will go to a travel agent in Kochi, someone trained to provide you with the information and support you need.
