In the Tropical Northern Lowlands:
A Classic Ecotour Hosted by Indigenous People

Thumbnail description:
Host Damon G. Corrie is "the inheritor of the now ceremonial traditional Lokono-Arawak Paramount Chieftaincy (and the current democratically elected Sovereign Chief of the Confederacy)" as well as the author of 4 books on Amerindian history. With help from his extensive network of tribal family and friends in Guyana's interior he can provide just about any kind of customized ecotour in the region. Damon specialties are his own people's history, and herpetology -- reptiles and amphibians. In this tour tribal villages supply expert local guides, food and lodging.

Safari to Marshall Falls on the Mazaruni River

Thumbnail description:
This is real back-country-jungle travel. The hosts, Ted & Louraine Sabat. operate a camp on the wild Mazaruni River, reachable only by boat, surrounded by their private 16,800-acre conservation area, which includes virgin rainforest. Animals possibly seen include Jaguars, Tapirs, Giant Anteaters, Sloth, Deer, Hogs, Monkeys, Birds, Turtles, and a lot more. To enhance traveler safety in this wild area, each visitor is assigned a personal native guide who not only watches out for you but also can explain a great deal about local natural history and culture.
