TOURS ON THE GULF COAST

Agroturism around Jalapa, Veracruz

Thumbnail description: It's hard to imagine a more "deep immersion" experience in heartland Mexican culture than this program offered by host Carlos J. Camacho. Though Sr. Camacho's English is only "about half," his vast body of knowledge of his local culture, traditions, history, and plants and animals affords the visitor an insight into the Mexican manner of being that few outsiders ever exprience. During this proposed five-day experience you will learn about such different things as coffee production, the traditional manufacturing of tile, local mountainside ecology, local foods and their preparation, how the local campesinos organize themselves, what local schools are like, and many other things, depending upon the time of year and the visitor's special interests.

Los Tuxtlas Biosphere Reserve Community Tourism Project

Thumbnail description: In this part of the world with incredible biological diversity the greatest danger to isolated reserves is encroachment by local farmers and hunters who need to eat, and do not produce enough food on their own small plots. Therefore we support the efforts of EarthFoot hosts Luisa Paré & Rubén Cruz working with their local Sociedad de Solidaridad Social Cielo, Tierra y Selva (The Sky, Land and Forest Solidarity Society) to help area residents have a stake in the ecological survival of Los Tuxtlas Biosphere Reserve. When you visit this community and biosphere Reserve, and leave a little money after paying modestly for campsite or boarding and local food, you become a fighter against environmental disaster in this sensitive part of the world.

"Las Cañadas" Cloud Forest Protection Program

Thumbnail description: Unlike our other programs, this project offers what could be called packaged tours on specific dates. However, EarthFoot so fervently supports this effort that we wish to list it, with our blessings. Not only can the visitor learn all about the endangered Cloud Forest ecosystem, but also there are options for engaging in "agroecology" educational efforts with the local community, enjoying produce from a totally organic farming operation, and rubbing shoulders with some very dedicated local activists. To learn more, just click on the "Get Info" button above, and note the "English Version" option.
