13 Days in the Namib Desert
Host Mike O'Connor-Smith has an air-conditioned Minibus and he's ready to take you to see the Namib Desert's most memorable attractions: the dunes of Sossusvlei, the Skeleton Coast, Damaraland, Etosha National Park, and the Waterberg Plateau. If you'd prefer to self-drive the route, Mike will set you up for that, too.
An Introduction to The Ova-Himba People & Their Homeland
Host Leon Openshaw here presents a sample itinerary of a cultural experience not to be found anywhere else, a visit with the last true traditional tribe of Africa, the nomadic Ova-Himba. This tribe has taken an oath never to become westernised, and live a life of simplicity with their livestock and lack of western amenities. Their huts are temporary and very basic. They dress in skins and cover their bodies with a mixture of ochre and cattle fat as protection against the sun. This is a truly humbling experience as you get to see with how little you need to survive and how happy you can be.
The Angel's View Hike on Naukluft Mountain
Host Leon Openshaw presents one of the more unique hiking trails of the world, one requiring a high degree of physical fitness. The trail traverses rugged Naukluft Mountain where hikers will encounter secluded gorges, sparkling mountain pools and breathtaking views. While antelope such as Kudu, Gemsbok (Oryx), Springbok and Klipspringer, all make this mountain their home. The mountain also supports a healthy Leopard population - always a possibility to catch a glimpse of this elusive, nocturnal predator.
Ecosystems of the Namib Desert
Host Leon Openshaw specializes in customized tours for small groups. Here he presents a sample itinerary taking the guest from the Central Highland of Namibia right up to the edge of the escarpment. Through semi-desert to the interior of the Namib desert, along some of the highest sand dunes in the world and over never-ending gravel plains, to the most awe-inspiring desert mountains and "Landscapes of the Soul!" A relevant reference library is always available in the safari vehicle.
