Attractions at Quamby Falls Lodge and nearby National Park:
Stag horns Birds Nest

There are many attractions on the property at Quamby Falls Lodge or in the adjoining World Heritage National Parks. Your Hosts are specialists in providing services and experiences to suit your particular interests and requirements. You may like to consider the following suggestions:

Walks:

  • Explore our 50 acres (approx.) property of rainforest, gardens and waterfalls.
  • Accompany Ian on a guided bushwalk to our waterfalls, with explanations of tree species and the eco-system, including native birdlife and the ancient brush-box tree believed to be 1,000's of years old.
  • Quamby Falls (116metres) is the highest in Southern Queensland and is exclusively accessible to our Guests. The intriguing rock face of this waterfall is a cross section of a 22 million year old volcano which has been split in half. The water which spills in a halo of diamonds and rainbows is actually distilled water emanating from the ancient volcano's core.
  • Bushranger's Cave is accessed by a short bushwalk from nearby Queensland/NSW border gate.
  • World Heritage National Parks. There are various access points to short and long walks through this scenic wonderland.

Glow-Worms and fireflies:

  • At the Natural Bridge cave and waterfall in the adjacent National Park are a popular attraction at night.
  • Alternatively explore the creek banks and grottoes at Quamby Falls Lodge for glow-worms.
  • Fireflies, like a ballet of fairies, are an intriguing sight at the bottom of the garden and along the creek at dusk from September to early November.

Kayaking

  • Kayaks are a pleasant way to explore the scenic beauty and wild life along local lake and rivers. Full guiding and instruction are provided.

Swimming

  • For a refreshing dip in the heat of summer, our natural rock pool is a shady haven offering peace, relaxation and tranquillity. The small waterfall provides a stimulating massage to neck and shoulders.

Bird Watching

  • Quamby Falls Lodge is a bird-watcher's paradise. A list is available of recorded species. This includes the rare Coxen's double-eyed fig parrot, the Rufous scrub-bird and the elusive Albert's Lyrebird. Perhaps you can add to the identified species.

Botany

  • Our rainforest is a surviving remnant of ancient Gondwanaland vegetation and includes a number of rare and endangered species. A comprehensive list of species has been prepared by leading botanists.
