This is much more than a birding trip. It is an unparalleled opportunity to explore a landscape as vast and un-peopled as one can imagine. Towering, snow-encrusted mountains punctuate the horizon at every turn. Prayer flags flutter in the breeze, and nomads chant while twirling ancient prayers wheels. Caravans of Yaks plod by on the eons-old salt route while a Snow Leopard gazes from afar. Yes, this is a great deal more than "just a bird tour."

Routes:

  • 12 days trip: Lhasa/Damxiong/Namtso Lake/Reting Monastery/Lhasa
  • 26 days:Lhasa/Gyantse/Shigatse/MtEverest/Kirong/Saga/Garer/ Gaize/Nyma/Naqu/Namtso/Lhasa
The birds:
Blood Pheasants, White Eared-Pheasants, and Blue Eared-Pheasants along with Verreaux's and Szecheny's Monal partridges and the little-known Severtsov's Grouse. Here we may also find the skulking Chinese Bush Warbler (one of my personal favorites), Gansu Leaf-Warbler, Crested Tit-Warbler--a gorgeous little gem of a bird, and the elusive Przevalski's Nuthatch. Where scrub covered hillsides remain we are likely to find Przevalski's and Tibetan partridges, Robin Accentor, Przevalski's Redstart, Kessler's Thrush, Koslov's Babax, Severtsov's Tit Warbler, White-browed Tit, Przevalski's Rosefinch, Koslov's Bunting, and Sinai Rosefinch. On the very highest passes and stony flats over 17,000 feet where we will gasp for breath are Tibetan Snowcock, the elusive Tibetan Sandgrouse, Brandt's Mountain Finch, and the much sought after Roborovski's Rosefinch, a bird seen by only a handful of ornithologists.

Just send us details of your visit -- your entry city, how much time you have, what you want to see, etc. -- and we will do our best to work with you.
