Weekend Experiences in
Ga and Akan Village Life

Length: One or two days.

Fee Charged: Modest. To be arranged with the host via e-mail. The costs will cover food, accommondation with the host family, and guiding fee.


The experience takes place in two Ga tribal villages called Ashaley Botwe and Pokuase, and in three Akan tribes villages called Aburi, Akuse and Akosombo. The visitor will learn from the people of the villages the following things

  • how to speak the various traditional languages
  • how people dress in their traditional clothing
  • histories of the villages
  • about the name given to the various villages
  • the villagers' ancestors
  • the villagers' leaders
  • how to prepare traditional meals
It will be seen that the tribes prepare their meals as follows:
First the Ga tribe:normally prepares a food called kenkey. Kenkey is called by the Ga tribes as "komi," which is prepare from maize or corn and it is eating after preparation with fried fish and stew.

Second, the Akan tribes also normally prepare a food called "fufuo." Fufuo is prepared from cassava and it is eaten after preparation with soup.

Visitors will learn how to dance in traditional ways and they will learn about the beating of drums, and how to follow by dancing.

This experience takes place about 11 to 12 miles from Kotoka International Airport.

Visitors will stay with the host family.
