To begin our fascinating journey you fly in to the gateway capital city of Guwahati, from Bagdogra, Delhi or Calcutta to spend the first night.

Driving up the Brahmaputra valley, your next halt is the Kaziranga National Park- a world heritage site. It is famous for its 1000 plus, population of one-horned Rhinos. Other attractions include the wild buffalo, magnificent swamp deer, hog deer, wild boar, Hoolak Gibbon, Capped Langur, and Badger. Amongst the birds, the Crested Serpent Eagle is common. While Pallas Fishing Eagle, as also Grey Headed Fishing Eagle, Crane, Great Adjutant Stork, Bengal Floricab, Bar Headed Goose, whistling Teal and Pelican can be seen in the wild. Staying at the Wild Grass jungle resort, You will spend spend one full day exploring the park on elephant back and jeeps, and another day birding with Man Barua - one of the the most experienced birding guides in India.

Driving into Nagaland on the fourth day we spend the next eight days exploring the tribal habitat. For a close experience, we avoid hotels and lodges and take you to tribal villages, where you stay as houseguests with Naga families. Your local hosts will take you through their habitats, bazaars, explain traditions and customs, show you traditional attire, demonstrate their dishes, and cooking styles, show how they practice agro-forestry, make handicrafts and tools. We hope to give you some insight into Naga traditions, culture, and lifestyles.. Some of the main experiences planned for you are :

  • At Kohima the capital city, located at an altitude of 1444 m, we show you the amazing diversity in dress, Customs, language and traditions of 15 major tribes, explore the state museum for an over view of tribal lifestyles, visit the handloom and handicraft emporium for its fine collection of saleable tribal shawls, hand bags, wood carvings, sarongs, cane and bamboo handicrafts, and ready wear garments of traditional weaves designed for modern tastes. The rare Blyth's Trogopan, and other fauna., are on view at the Zoological Park. Close to Kohima, your trip to Khonoma Village provides an opportunity to see local lifestyles and meet people. Here terraced fields produce more than 20 strains of rice at different altitudes, The tribal folks have practiced agro- forestry and judiciously managed their natural resources over generations. This industrious and self reliant village is also famous for its artisans and craftsman
  • To explore the lovely mountain countryside of Nagaland we will take you on a walking exploration of the Japfu Mountain Range rising to 3048 meters. Your trip to the idyllic Dzulekie Valley located at elevation of 2133 m will be memorable with a river flowing through deep gorge, with rainbow trout, expanse of green hills, waterfalls, and grazing domesticated bison. Trekking in the Dzokou Valley at elevation of 2483 m, we will show you unadulterated nature. You will see dwarf bamboo, mountain streams, wild flowers, Rhododendrons, and other flora.
  • Our visit to the Ao tribal habitat around Mokokchung town, will take you to Longkhum Village: renowned for its headhunters in the past. You will also visit the century old Ungma Village for a peep into folklore, customs and traditions.
  • Our visit to the Lotha tribal habitat around Wokha town will take you to Mount Tiyi, the legendary abode of departed soulsl

The Journey ends at Dimapur airport on the 12th day.
