Jamaica's heritage in birds is rich, as over 300 species have been observed here; this includes migrant species that spend the wintering months here. - The island of Jamaica has an astonishing 28 endemic species of birds, not to mention its host of multi-island endemics and Neotropical migrants. Jamaica has the highest number of endemic birds in the Caribbean. The Jamaican national bird, the Doctor bird, also known as the Red-billed Streamertail (Trochilus polytmus) is one of Jamaica's endemic species, found no where else in the world.

Well over half of Jamaica's endemic birds can be seen at or on the surrounding grounds of the hotel. A day drive to the nearby Blue Mountains gives you the chance to clean up on the remaining specialty birds as well as experience the true beauty of Jamaica's interior. The hotel is one of the best spots to see the Black-billed Streamertail.
