Length of stay: One to many days

Minimum number of guests: One

Languages: English (so-so), French, Arabic, Tamaschek

Fee:

  • 100 US$ per person per day if you travel on your own 90
  • US$ per person per day if you are a group of at least 4 people
If one wants to travel in a larger group then the prices will be less. The day price includes breakfast, lunch, diner, tent, camping gear, chairs, tables etc., jeep, guide, invitation for the visa, transfer to and from the airport, entree for the museum and archaeological sites, hotel costs). The flights to and from Libya are not included in the price.

Getting there:
We pick up our clients by minibus or car in Djerba, Tunisia. Visitors flying directly to Tripoli (Lufthansa, Alitalia, KLM etc.) will be met by members from our team at the airport and being transferred (via a domestic flight, if possible or by car) to Sheba. In case of a late arrival in Tripoli (or Djerba), we will continue our trip the next day and make reservations for our clients in a higher class hotel in Tripoli. The reservations and costs for domestic flights will be the responsibility of us, and we will also cover all entrance fees which are part of the programme (like museums). We are not responsible for the reservations and payments of the flights from Europe to Tripoli or Djerba.

Visa Information:
We will provide our clients with the official invitation necessary to apply for a tourist visa at the Libyan embassy. The passport of the person travelling needs to be valid for at least six months (starting form the day of departure) and may not have an Israeli stamp. An official translation into Arabic is required of all personal dates in the passport. Each visitor to Libya should bring 2-3 extra passport photographs with him. It takes about 2-3 weeks to receive a tourist visa from a Libyan embassy. The costs are about 50 U$ (incl. translation). It might be an extra convenience to ask a visa service office to organise all the requirements necessary.

Food & Accommodation:
We will be in charge for all the expenses for food, the accommodations in hotels with higher standards and transport. The hotel-rooms will be with WC and shower. It is possible to make reservations for single rooms. For the nights in the deserts we provide our clients with single or double tents. However, we strongly recommend an open air accommodation, sleeping under the sky full of (falling) stars. If preferred, we can also take mattresses, blankets, folding chairs and tables along.

A Typical Day:
Usually our tours start 8.00 a.m. and end at about 6 p.m. We serve breakfast starting at 7.30 a.m. and our breakfast includes: bread, cheese, jam, milk, tea and coffee. We will prepare lunch between 12.30 p.m. and 1.30 p.m. Lunch includes salads, bread and juice. Depending on the temperatures we will have a little rest after our lunch break. Dinner is served between 7.30 p.m. and 9.00 p.m. and will be a hot meal like soup, bread, juice, tea, a Libyan dish (like Couscous), rice, macaroni, meat and fruits. Of course, every day will be different depending on the weather conditions, the length of our tours or the sightseeing sites we are going to visit. Of course, we are very willing to satisfy individual wishes among the members of our group (for example a special diet for vegetarians)

Transport:
During all our tours through the Sahara we will travel with Jeeps (4 wheel drive). Our drivers are very experienced (most of them are Touareg); they are born in the Sahara and know the routes inside out. Also, experienced guides accompany our groups and will explain the sightseeing sites and special landscape during our trip. In every Jeep four people will travel. We organise camel- and trekking- tours as well.

Clothes:
Mohamed in desert clothes Light cotton clothes, long pants, skirts, T-Shirts, but also 1 (wool)sweater and a jacket (hood?) as protection against the wind and in case of bad weather conditions. Light, transposing shoes with a high up to the ankles. It is useful to carry a torch.

Health & Vaccination:
At the moment no vaccinations are required to enter Libya; a Malaria prophylactic is not necessary. However, it is strongly recommended that travellers do bring some protection against mosquitoes with them. A vaccination against Hepatitis A, Tetanus and Polio is being suggested if the last vaccination has been 8-10 years ago.

Special Note:
Participants of all our tours should take the different customs and habits of the country in consideration; they should be willing to respect another mentality, especially if things are happening to be different then they are used to; if the understanding of time' is another, or the hotel rooms are not always as clean as at home. Sometimes one might even meet a co-inhabitant'. Usually those are Geckos and they bring you lot's of luck!

In general the participants should be willing to accept the fact that they will have less comfort then at home. Sometimes we have to take longer trips on badly paved roads and paths. Travelling in Libya has still the character of an expedition! Therefore we also expect from our visitors not only be prepared to travel with less luxury but we also ask them to be flexible enough to accept happenings which haven't been plant and which lead to changes of the programme. (For example the change of a day programme due to a sandstorm).
