We operate from St Arnaud, gateway to Nelson Lakes National Park. Business partners Allan & Bobbie Poll provide a range of activities with an emphasis on personal service and photography opportunities. We have travelled widely, especially in the USA, and can respond to the needs of our overseas clients.

We have several general itineraries to choose from. Our most popular ones focusing mainly on nature photography include the following:

The "Forest Trails" Tour, a day-trip

forest trailforest trail This features relaxed walking through the Podocarp rainforest of Rotoroa and the alpine beech forest of Rotoiti. These ancient forests have been here since the end of the ice age. Some of the trees are hundreds of years old. The sub-canopy provides food and shelter for many birds and the forest floor is a photogenic treasure of mosses, fungi, lichens and ferns. Perching plants (epiphytes) hang from the branches of their host trees like strange creatures waiting to pounce.

Our walks in these forests are fairly short so we suggest doing one in the morning and one in the afternoon, with local sightseeing being taken as a break between the two.

A Campout in Nelson Lakes National Park

campfire This is for the person who REALLY wants a close encounter with the wilderness. A day’s journey through the forest, hiking to a shelter in the park where you can prepare a camp meal and settle down for the night with the stars of the Southern Cross above you and the silence broken only by the occasional call of Ruru, our small native owl. Allan will use his lifetime of experience to give you the experience of your life. His bush skills and knowledge of outdoor safety, search & rescue and first aid make him the ideal person to have with you on this journey. The close bond he has with this way of life is something he is happy to share. These campouts are for reasonably fit people but are not arduous and therefore are able to be accessed by those with a minimum of experience. We aim to give people who may be reluctant to do real ‘trekking’ the opportunity to have the experience without the risks.

The "West Coast Adventures" Tour

coastal scene Here we'll travel by 4WD vehicle to the West Coast through the spectacular Buller Gorge to Westport. A visit to Coaltown, the seal colony and the Punakaiki Rocks in Paparoa National Park. Have that camera ready!
