A 6-DAY, 5-NIGHT ITINERARY
Day 1:
Arrival, rest and relaxation
Day 2:
Commence with a tour of the immediate environs of the Cuffie River estate. Originally a sugar, then a cocoa plantation, the entire area has now been virtually taken over by the rainforest. On this first day's tour with our knowledgeable and trained guide, Desmond, you will encounter waterfalls, many beautiful species of birds, reptiles and the flora and fauna which make Cuffie River the beautiful property which it is. In addition, Desmond will share with you some of the history and culture of Tobago as you encounter old sugar mills, the more than century-old grave of the last plantation owner and remnants of the sugar cane and cocoa on which the estate thrived in former times. You taste cocoa picked directly from the tree of your enjoyment, chew on sugarcane which we cut for you, drink fresh, sweet coconut water straight from the nut, learn the island uses of the various flora and fauna and take, if you like, a dip in the cool, refreshing waterfall pools. This tour will last the better part of the day, so a packed lunch is given to the guests to take along with them so that they may spend as long as they like. Their guide will be at their complete disposal.
Day 3:
We will focus on a wetlands tour to three or four different sites on the island to see those birds and caiman which frequent the wetlands areas. This tour will include a visit to one of the island's beautiful beaches where guests will stop to take a dip in the refreshing waters of the ocean.
Day 4:
We take a drive to the north of the island to do a combination reef and birdwatching tour on Little Tobago just off the tiny seaside village of Speyside. Little Tobago is the habitat of three important waterbirds: the red-billed tropic bird, the red-footed booby, the brown booby, the blue-faced booby and the frigate bird. Observe at close range their nesting habits and the young birds as they experience life in its early stages. On the way back, enjoy a glass-bottomed boat tour of the beautiful coral reefs surrounding Little Tobago - the Angel Reef, the Japanese Garden and one of the oldest brain corals in the Western Hemisphere - approximately 500 years old. Stop along the way and snorkel in the waters of the reef and view the beautiful tropical fishes which abound in this area. Time permitting, a drive to picturesque Charlotteville, the northernmost village of Tobago will be included in this tour and the enjoyment of a tropical sunset on the way back to the eco-lodge.
Day 5:
The Grand Finale - will end with a cultural tour of the island to visit the many historic sites on the island. Acquaint yourself with the intriguing history of Tobago as you visit the museum - small but put together with so much love and attention to detail - and go from one fort to the next and learn the history of Tobago's encounter with the particular power which established these monuments which exist up to today. There are English Forts, a French Fort, a Dutch Fort and a memorial in the village of Plymouth which identifies the short period of Latvian rule in the Courland Bay area of Tobago. We combine this with a shopping tour so you can purchase indigenous mementos of your visit to Tobago.
Day 6:
Departure or extension of stay either at Cuffie River or another property on the island.
