Birding on the Edge of the Lake District, Based in the Country in a Large Family Home

This visit centers around your stay in a spacious house just outside a small English village, located on the edge of England's beautiful Lake District.  The house is well equipped with birding paraphernalia, such as bird books and videos, and a whole family of birding enthusiasts. Each day of your visit you can launch into the countryside with experienced birder Mike Robinson, who will make every effort to customize your field hours according to your own special interests and needs. Guided Birding in Northeast Scotland

Expert birder Rodney Payne knows where the interesting birds are in his part of the country so if you tell him what you want to see, and how you want to travel and spend your nights, it's a good bet he can come up with an itinerary to satisfy your needs. At our page we list which birds you can see during each of the four seasons. You will visit areas in Aberdeenshire, the Moray Firth, Royal Deeside and Speyside. These different geographical areas are wonderfully varied for both habitats and wildlife.

Seven Days of Wilderness Walking around Rua Reidh Lighthouse

Guests stay in "The Keepers House" next to a still operational light tower within the Rua Reidh lighthouse walls.  The lighthouse itself was built in 1910 by David Stevenson, a cousin of the famous writer, Robert Louis Stevenson.  During the days, hikes are taken to areas with abundant orchids, wild lands where Ptarmigan might be seen, and along cliffs from which whales and dolphins are often spotted.  This is a rugged land with much outcropping rock, so host Chris Barrett, a geologist, will endeavor to explain how these mountains were formed and which rocks are which. At night there are cozy sitting rooms with log fires and a wealth of reference books and board games. Food is home cooked and plentiful using fresh local produce.
